Discover the Duomo di Milano
Milan’s cathedral took the better part of six hundred years to finish, and you can read that span in the building: Gothic bones, Renaissance detail, a façade completed under Napoleon. Inside it’s vast and dim and unexpectedly quiet. Up on the roof you walk between the spires with the city laid out below, and on a clear day the Alps sit on the horizon.
About the Duomo di Milano
Why Visit the Duomo di Milano
A Gothic cathedral like nowhere else in Italy: spires, statues and marble tracery worked by hand across six centuries.
Walk on the roof: the terraces put you among the spires, looking out over Milan and, on a clear day, as far as the Alps.
Stained glass worth an hour on its own: enormous windows that read like illustrated books, panel by panel.
The Duomo Museum: original sculptures, models and treasury pieces taken down from the building, seen at arm’s length instead of a hundred feet overhead.
A working cathedral: Mass is still said here daily, and the place feels different for it.
Dead centre of Milan: the Galleria, La Scala and the Palazzo Reale are all a few minutes’ walk from the square.
